FACT / BBC Big Screen; Liverpool 2006.

This work was commissioned by FACT for the launch of Art and Architecture week in Liverpool. Usual screenings taking place during the day were interrupted by live footage of passers-by in the square, alongside footage that had been delayed by 20 seconds. This was inter-cut with pre-recorded staged scenarios such as an upset bride running through the square, two young boys play fighting with an ice cream and a film star running away from the press.

Documentation of pre-recorded footage
As people passed the screen, the camera occasionally zoomed in and followed them. Viewers played with the camera and screen, they saw themselves and others in the square, some would search for the bride running into the shopping centre or find their movements strangely detached from what they were watching. It created disorientation and an acute awareness of the surroundings through the need to secure a visual anchorage to the video representation.
